K4: Awareness of the pre-referral, referral, and placement process used for identifying and serving students with Other Health Disabilities.

K7: Understanding of basic assistive and health technology used to support students with OHD.

S2: Demonstrate the ability to adapt, modify, or structure the environment to accommodate the diverse needs of students with OHD.

S3: Demonstrates the ability to modify instructional methods as needed by students with OHD (including selecting, adapting, and using specialized materials and instructional strategies to maximize learning) in accordance with the Individualized Education Program.

The paraprofessional’s answer should include several strategies; including:

  1. Have Marcus check with the teacher for instructions.
  2. Have Marcus check the board to see if the instructions are listed there.
  3. Have Marcus check with his peers to get the instructions, with the understanding that he may need to get them clarified with an adult.
  4. Encourage Marcus to ask his group what they are doing, what his role should be, etc.
  5. It is important for the paraprofessional to indicate that Marcus should be responsible for getting this information, NOT the paraprofessional. Accept answers that indicate that the paraprofessional understands that the student should not always depend on her/him.
