Introduction

As you have seen from previous units, behavior management strategies can be implemented to increase desirable behaviors and to decrease inappropriate behaviors. In some school districts, behavior management plans are put into place for all of the schools within that district. These procedures may be somewhat modified depending on the age and grade levels of the various schools. However, a uniform policy may be adopted for the entire school district. This is the ideal situation in each school. Staff need to examine their own schools policies as well as the districts discipline policies.

Objectives

As you read the objectives for this unit, think about and rate your current knowledge using the following scale.

  1. I do not understand this.
  2. I do understand this.
  3. I understand this well enough to use in my work.
  4. I could teach others about it and use it in my work.

In this unit you will:

  • Learn what a school-wide system of support is.
  • Learn about signs that indicate a school needs a support system.
  • Learn about several models of support.
  • Learn about what it takes to implement a school wide support system.
