Introduction

While it is important to have planned and organized lessons and activities, there will be times when they will need to be adapted or modified. Sometimes these changes can be made in advance, other times the changes may need to happen spontaneously. Changes occur due to time, student, or situational factors. With either planned or unplanned activities and lessons, directions need to be complete and specific. Whenever possible, lesson plans should be followed. If alternative activities are needed, they should be selected with developmental and age-appropriateness in mind.

Objectives

As you read the objectives for this unit, think about and rate your current knowledge using the following scale.

  1. I do not understand this.
  2. I do understand this.
  3. I understand this well enough to use in my work.
  4. I could teach others about it and use it in my work.

  • Learn how and why to give complete and specific instructions to activities.
  • Provide appropriate alternative activities.
  • Know how to read and follow a lesson plan.
