Introduction

In our education system, guidelines have been established to provide education for all individuals. Several laws and mandate this concept. This unit explores the various components that are included in the ideal of "Education for All." As a paraprofessional, it is necessary for you to have knowledge and understand the premise that underlies the special education system.

Objectives

As you read the objectives for this unit, think about and rate your current knowledge using the following scale.

1. I do not understand this.
2. I do understand this.
3. I understand this well enough to use in my work.
4. I could teach others about it and use it in my work.

In this unit you will:

• Learn what the term "Education for All" means and how that relates to the special education system.
• Learn what the term "Least Restrictive Environment" means.
• Learn what the purposes and goals of education for all are.
