Introduction

"Special Education" is the general term used to describe the educational services provided to children with disabilities. Federal law entitles every child to a free and appropriate education (FAPE)glossary icon designed to meet their unique needs. Special education centers around a process for evaluation of those needs, development of an individualized education program (IEPglossary icon), and provision of the resources needed to successfully implement that program. There are clear guidelines that must be adhered to in the special education process
