Types of Individual Plans

Because special education centers around a process for evaluating unique needs, development of individualized plans and provisions for the resources needed to successfully implement the plans are necesssary. Clear guidelines must be adhered to in the special education process when developing and implementing an individualized plan.

In pre-K through 12 education, the individual plans you will most likely encounter will be the IEP, IFSP, and IHP. Other types of plans that are used in adult services are also discussed in this unit. While you may not see these plans in your direct service with students, it is important to be familiar with them because your students may need them in the future.
